The Württembergisch Art Society has been based since 1913 in the art building designed by Theodor Fischer at the Schloßplatz, and has always seen itself as a place of engagement with contemporary art. With the exception of the cupola, the entire building was destroyed in World War II, and rebuilt in the years 1956 to 1961 according to the plans of Paul Bonatz and Günter Wilhelm. It was extended by a new building, the so-called square room, a classic White Cube.
